Historical Evolution
District 1, Ho Chi Minh City
Vietnam's history is a long narrative of formation, struggle, and eventual reunification. The foundations of the nation can be traced back to the Văn Lang era in the 7th century BC, followed by Âu Lạc in the 3rd century BC. After periods of Chinese annexation and subsequent independence, the nation saw various dynasties rise and fall, including the unification efforts of the Nguyễn dynasty in 1802.
The late 19th and 20th centuries brought significant external influences and conflicts. The Protectorate Treaty of 1883 led to the era of French Indochina. Following the First Indochina War, the 1954 Geneva Conference resulted in a North–South partition along the 17th parallel. This division preceded the Vietnam War, which concluded on April 30, 1975. The country was officially reunified on July 2, 1976.
